Between the Covers: The Life and Literature of Vita Sackville West at Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, England. Illustrations by Sarah Tanat-Jones.

One of Sarah Tanat-Jones stand out projects of last year was her commission from The National Trust to create a collection of artworks for their exhibition Between the Covers: The Life and Literature of Vita Sackville West at Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, England.

Sarah’s work included portraits of Vita and her most famous lover and muse, Virginia Woolf, a series of cover illustrations for Vita’s best-known novels and a stop-frame animation; all helping to bring new attention to the life and beautiful gardens created by the bohemian aristocrat.

Sarah describes the project as being a great joy, providing her with an opportunity to create a series of varied works with the added challenge of adapting her illustrative style to be sympathetic to the Bloomsbury aesthetic, whilst also keeping the work recognisably her own with distinctive bold colour and mark-making.

With thanks to the National Trust for this commission.
